That evening I posted my coming out speech on social media. The support from my family and friends has been overwhelming. I feel as if the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders.
I'm more relaxed, happy and confident than I have ever been, and somehow I just feel "right". It's difficult to explain. Love, Simon was the catalyst I've been longing for all my life.
It's such an important film, yet so accessible and enjoyable. I wish I'd been able to watch it in a cinema, but given the state I was in at the end, it's probably best I didn't.

This is a film that everyone should watch, regardless of their sexual orientation, it's a film that is starting conversations, helping those who struggle with their orientation, and it accepts it.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, just watch the movie, laugh and cry and when it finishes go and hug the person, maybe you might know them or you might not, but hug them, phone them, tell them that you are there.

The main DVD flaw was the depiction of the school principal as a total idiot who could never have been appointed. The football game, or rather the playing of the national anthem before it being interrupted by Martin declaring his love for a fellow student, I thought completely improbable and the finale where most of the school turned up at the fairground to see who was the mysterious writer of emails, equally so.
The DVD extras where the author professed herself delighted with the film, seemed forced but what else could she say?
Worth watching at any age for the positive message this film promotes - even if the sister is bit annoying. I would recommend reading the book that the film is based on - teenage fiction but don't let that put you off, as the film waters down the characters and lets face it - the books always better.
This film is in the tradition of all American high school drama's but with a gay lead character, so if that's your thing or even if it's not usually something you'd watch, watch this.
