Chagal wraps himself in garlic and runs into the woods after his daughter. Professor Abronsius discovers small puncture wounds all over the body, but the villagers, still in denial, wrongly assume they came from wolf bites.
The Professor hands Rebecca a wooden stake and explains she must puncture Chagal's heart in order to prevent him from becoming a vampire.
Hysterical, Rebecca chases him and Alfred out of the room, covering her husband with a bedsheet and swearing that she would never let anyone violate his corpse.
In the middle of the night, Magda sneaks downstairs to look at Chagal's corpse, expressing mixed feelings about his death.

The Count appears to welcome her and manages to resist biting her, planning to save her for the ball the next night Totale Finsternis - Total Eclipse.
At the same time, Alfred is asleep with the Professor in a guest bedroom in another part of the castle, suffering from terrifying nightmares, with one nightmare, in which he loses Sarah to the bloodthirsty vampires Carpe noctem.
Alfred and the Professor make their way to the crypt In der Gruft - In the Crypt , where they locate the two vampires. Alfred comes across a small bedroom where he finds Sarah in the bathroom, apparently unharmed. Alfred begs for her to leave, but Sarah refuses, saying she wants to stay for the midnight ball.

Alfred and the Professor plan to sneak Sarah out during the dance, but unfortunately for them, a mirror is unveiled, blowing their cover since they're the only ones reflected.
Von Krolock commands his vampire flock to attack Alfred and his mentor, but the former manages to form a makeshift cross out of two candelabras, causing a diversion.
The three humans make their escape as von Krolock, furious, sends Koukol chasing after the girl. Koukol chases Alfred, Sarah and the Professor through the woods, but is attacked by wolves and killed.

Allerdings können sie Chagal überreden, sie zum Schloss des Grafen von Krolock zu führen. Dieser empfängt sie und stellt sie seinem homosexuellen Sohn Herbert vor, der sofort in Alfred einen Menschen gefunden haben will, der ihm seine Langeweile nimmt.
Der Graf überredet die beiden, über Nacht zu bleiben, indem er den Professor mit reichlich Studienmaterial lockt. Am nächsten Morgen ist für ihn klar: Er muss Sarah sofort finden.
Doch Abronsius will erst einmal dem Vampirismus ein Ende setzen, und so machen sie sich auf die Suche nach der Familiengruft, um die beiden Vampire zu pfählen.
Kurz danach treffen Chagal und Magda in der Gruft ein und haben durch gegenseitiges Aussaugen Gefallen daran gefunden, Vampire zu sein.
Während der Professor die hunderttausend Bücher bewundert, hört Alfred Gesang. Er folgt der Stimme und findet Sarah beim Baden vor.
Er versucht, sie zur gemeinsamen Flucht zu überreden, aber sie will wegen des Balls, der im Schloss stattfindet, bleiben.
Der beginnt die Jagd auf Alfred, und als Herbert siegreich seine Eckzähne in Alfreds Hals bohren will, gelingt es diesem gerade noch, ihm das Buch entgegenzuschieben, so dass sich die Zähne ins Buch hineinbohren.
Abronsius befreit Alfred aus dieser misslichen Situation. Nachts sammeln sich die geladenen Gäste, Artverwandte des Grafen, zum jährlichen Ball.
Professor Abronsius und Alfred überwältigen zwei Ballgäste und ziehen sich deren Sachen an, um mit Sarah vom Schloss zu fliehen.
So schleichen sie sich auf den Ball, um Sarah zu retten, müssen jedoch aus Gründen der Tarnung bei einem Tanz der Vampire mitmachen.
Im Ballsaal ist ein Spiegel aufgestellt und da Vampire keine Spiegelbilder besitzen, werden Alfred und der Professor erkannt.
Die drei schaffen es, mit zwei Armleuchtern ein Kreuz zu bilden. Dadurch gehen alle anwesenden Vampire zu Boden, und so können die drei endlich flüchten.
Während der Professor Notizen macht, träumen Alfred und Sarah von einem neuen, schönen Leben — aber dann sieht man Sarahs Vampirzähne, die sie in Alfreds Hals schlägt, so dass auch er zum Vampir wird.
Damit triumphieren am Ende doch die Vampire und feiern dies mit einem Tanz der Vampire. Anmerkung: Rollen, die mit stumm markiert wurden, tauchen zwar in den Szenen auf, haben aber keine Spracheinsätze.
Tanz der Vampire wurde vom 4. Oktober bis zum Januar im Raimund Theater und vom September bis zum Juni und vom Juni im Ronacher in Wien gespielt.
