The film skips over some of the better parts of the book when they needed to stay on track with Rachel. The character is flawed and Blunt is much too pretty for the role but is still strong.

Bennett is really good in her role and the showcase in the film. Other actors are wasted in the roles and it's a shame to see them try in underwritten roles.

The film needed to be closer to the book with the twisting narrative because that's why the book worked so well, like Gone Girl. This book rushes too much and next minute the finale is here and we are meant to care.

Could've been a great film with a better team of writers and director, another 30 mins was required and a director like Scott or Fichner would've known this.

Meerdere keren het idee gehad dat ik het einde wel voelde aankomen, maar uiteindelijk bleek het toch net even iets anders in elkaar te zitten.

The Girl on the Train is ook een fijne mysterie die vooral ondersteund wordt door een goed spelende Emily Blunt, die de film toch in haar eentje weet te dragen.

Zij speelt toch wel een overtuigende alcoholist, zonder dat je denkt dat ze overdreven met een dubbele tong o. De film draait er voornamelijk om wat er nou precies die ene avond is gebeurd dat Blunt's personage een black out heeft gehad en het meisje wie ze altijd vanuit de trein bespiedt en toevallig naast haar ex woont vermist raakt.

Het mysterie wordt aardig opgebouwd en de film weet de spanning goed vast te houden de gehele speelduur. Je moet er wel van houden en het is allemaal wel wat traagjes, maar binnen dit genre doet the Girl on the Train gewoon wat het moet doen, zonder exceptioneel te worden.

Duke Nukem. Een traag, verwarrend en pretentieus project dat nergens weet te boeien. Emily Blunt is nogal een saaie trien, en weet nergens de sympathie van de kijker mee te krijgen.

Rachel fühlt sich so gut wie schon lange nicht mehr, weil sie das Gefühl hat, zur Aufklärung des Falles beitragen zu können. Sie erfährt, dass Tom sie wegen der Blackouts belogen hat und sie in Wahrheit keine Ausraster hatte.

Tom wollte eine Aufdeckung der Beziehung verhindern und schlug Rachel nieder. Rachel sucht Tom und Anna in ihrem Haus auf, um sie mit der Wahrheit zu konfrontieren.

Tom versucht, sie zu erwürgen. Als sie flüchtet, greift sie sich einen Korkenzieher, den sie Tom, als er sie einholt, in den Hals rammt.

Anna, die Toms Brutalität beobachtet und erkennt, dass es sich um Notwehr gehandelt hat, kommt hinzu und tötet den noch röchelnden Tom.

Every day she rides past her former neighbourhood just gazing out windows and she becomes fixated on a couple that appear to have everything.

When she notices a new man on the scene she is driven compulsively to explore what happened. In the process, we become witness to a triple set of simmering relationships that turn dangerous when a babysitter's body is found gruesomely buried nearby.

Rachel is implicated when, unable to account for her whereabouts, she becomes a murder suspect. Constant inebriation makes an unreliable narrator and Rachel's hold on reality regularly dissolves while frequent flashbacks create disorientation amidst the detail of who is being unfaithful or untruthful with whom.

The narrative structure is both complex and well-constructed. It is like a jigsaw puzzle being assembled by first laying out the most distant pieces in isolation, then randomly laying out more on the board's periphery.

All the time we are uncertain whether Rachel is sane or sozzled as, one by one, clues about what happened on the night of the murder are laid out with surgical precision in the finest tradition of a Hitchcock thriller.

Emily Blunt's performance drives this film despite the incongruity of her unexplained Britishness in America.

A drunk narrator does not readily earn audience sympathy, but Rachel's pained eyes and mournfulness are engaging.

The soundtrack adds a psychological thriller edge to a well-paced tale despite Rachel's permanent introspection. While the film has a strong support cast, no other character is developed beyond a two-dimensional persona in what is a female-driven story with a spectacular finale of feminine vengeance.
